Small Groups
What is a small group and why are they so important?
Jesus had his own small group – the 12 disciples. He cared for them, taught them and treated them as family. In a society where there are so many broken homes and where people do not feel a sense of community – small groups offer an excellent place for people to feel they belong.
The small group, sometimes called a home group or house group, is at the heart of church community life. In the past, small groups were often called Bible study groups and study of the Bible remains a key part of the small group’s life; but it also provides a safe place where you can share the ups and downs of life, find help and prayer support, ask difficult questions about your faith and discover your own God-given ministry. It also gives you an opportunity to make new friends, have fun and socialise together – this all builds relationships and a sense of belonging.
Small groups also provide a non-threatening place to invite folk who are not Christians for meals, special events or for opportunities to explore the Christian faith.
Above all, small groups are an excellent place to grow closer to the Lord Jesus. The primary aim of each small group at WBC is to help you know the Lord Jesus better and love Him more.
Who are small groups for?
Small groups are for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you have been a Christian for a long time, a short time or if you are still unsure if you are a Christian.
When and where do the small groups meet?
Small groups meet during the week for about 2 hours; there are groups that meet in the evening and some that meet during the day.
Most groups have about 8-10 members and meet in someone’s home but one or two meet in the lounge of the church house (Manse). There are groups meeting in most of the villages, in and around Whetstone.
