We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done...so that the next generation would know them… [and] they would put their trust in God (Psalm 78).

Babies, toddlers and children are an essential part of the church family here at Whetstone Baptist Church, and so we have a dedicated child ministry team just for them led by our full-time Children's and Families' worker Nicola Foster. We are passionate about providing a fun, loving and safe environment where children can learn about and engage with the holy God of love, through studying the Bible, through prayer, through music, drama, fun and games, and through the leaders modelling what a Christian life looks like, all in an age-appropriate and meaningful way.

Our prayer is that as children grow from babies to young adults they will also grow spiritually, that they will grow to know their Father God personally, place their faith and trust in Jesus, know what it means to follow Jesus, and live full lives that reflect the character and nature of God.

Kids Church runs during the 10:45am family service each Sunday. After a short time of family worship in the main church building all the children and young people leave to go into our other on-site buildings and to their respective groups, details of which can be found below.

We also run children’s groups in term time and special events throughout the year, details of which you can find below.

If you would like any more information, or to talk to someone about the children’s work at WBC, please contact Nicola Foster or call the church office, 0116 2863145.

Kids church runs throughout the year, catering for children 0-11 years of age, during the 10.45am service.

Children 3 and below go into an area (the crèche), specifically aimed at them. This is a place for the youngest members of our congregation to have a fun, safe time whilst through play learn about the God who loves them. The crèche team is led by three members of our church who all have experience working with children, as well as helpers all of who work in the crèche on a regular basis, allowing the children to get to know the adults feeling comfortable to be left with them. Crèche is designed for parents to take their children to and be able to go into the service. However if you would prefer to stay with your children that is fine as well.

Children aged 3-11 years are all together when we leave the main church building, after our family worship time. After registering, the children have a time of worship, sometimes led by the youth worship band and then a time of teaching. The children then go into smaller groups with children of similar ages to discuss the application of the teaching and to have a prayer time. Kids church teaches the Bible in a fun and applicable way, helping the children who attend to engage with God in their own way.

Big Bang Club is a club for children aged 7-11 years, which runs on Tuesday evenings 6.30 – 8 pm in term time. We have lots of fun, activities including, sports, games, craft, drama, quizzes, art and trips out. Everyone is welcome, with subs of 50p and you can bring up to 50p for the tuck shop. We have a regular ‘God slot’, where we learn more about God and what it means to be friends with him.

King Street Ducklings is our church toddler group for pre-school children and their carers. We have a wide range of toys and activities that the children can enjoy, in a warm and safe environment. We hope also to be a place where adults can relax and chat to others. We have a snack time, for children and adults, with singing and a story time each time we meet.

King St Ducklings is held every Thursday in term time between 1.30–3pm and it costs 50p per family group.

Messy Church is a church-based, Christ-centred, worldwide initiative that aims to make church available, accessible and fun for families. Through creativity, hospitality (food!), and celebration, Messy Church provides a way for families and people of all ages to encounter Jesus.

At WBC we hold Messy Church on the first Friday of every month between 3.30–5.45pm and at 10.30am on Good Friday and at Christmas. We start with craft and activity tables, followed by a story and singing time in Church, followed by a yummy dinner. Messy Church is free to attend, however there is a donation box if you wish to give towards the meal.

HBC is a week of fun, games, singing, shouting, craft, Bible stories and learning about Jesus. It is for children of primary school age. We run HBC in the first full week of August every year between 9.45am and 12.30pm. We have a fun day on Saturday for all the family, finishing on Sunday with a session in church for everyone at 10.45am. We have been running the holiday bible club for over 40 years, with generations of families coming along in that time. It's an exciting week in the summer holidays for your children, which is absolutely free.

The church family here at Whetstone are committed to the nurturing, protection and safeguarding of all children and young people associated with the church. As a church family we seek to establish practice which ensures that all our activities are conducted in a way which promotes a safe environment for all and demonstrates God’s love. Therefore, the Safe to Grow document is a set of guidelines that seeks to achieve this, and has been produced in light of our responsibilities for the safeguarding of all children and young people under the age of 18 (regardless of gender, ethnicity or ability) as set out in The Children Act 1989 and 2004, Safe from Harm (HM Government 1994) and Working Together to Safeguard Children (HM Government 2010) [or Working Together under the Children Act (Welsh Assembly Government 2006)].
