Call to prayer

Praying through the pandemic

A prayer for the worldwide situation

Read Psalm 46

Lord, we lift to You all our sisters and brothers across the world who have been, and are continuing to be, affected by COVID-19.

We pray that they will know Your overwhelming, faithful love; please empower Your Church to care for the sick, support the needy and witness to the hope that we have in Christ.

A prayer for the anxious

'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.' John 14:27 (NIV)

Lord, we bring to You those who are fearful at the moment, those in our church family who may feel vulnerable and worried.

Please fill them with the peace that passes all understanding and remind them by Your Spirit of Your rock-solid promise to be with them, that they will never be separated from Your love.

A prayer for the local community

Read Psalm 23

Loving God, we pray for those self-isolating in our communities, who are struggling to get shopping, who need regular hospital visits and for those who feel lonely and cut off from others.

Help us to show Your love in action to people in Whetstone.

A prayer for NHS staff and carers

Healing Lord, pour out Your Spirit of power on those who are on the frontline of care; we pray that they will be sustained physically, emotionally and spiritually in the coming weeks.

We bring to You the medical staff in our own church family. Lord, may they know You as their shield and their strength.

A prayer for our Government

Father, guide the leaders of our nation as they make decisions over the coming days.  Help them to be wise about the measures they take to overcome this virus.

Please prompt them to turn to You in prayer and to seek You as they carry these great responsibilities.

A prayer for ourselves

Lord Jesus, use this time to draw me deeper in my relationship with You. Help me to use the space to reflect upon Your great love for me, so powerfully expressed at Calvary.

Fill me with wonder, awe and praise so that my love for You overflows in worship and in care for others.

Let this time be transformational in my life. Take what might be seen as a dark time to fill me with Your light and make me more like You in the way I think, speak and act – for Your glory.

New building call to prayer

As we move into what we pray will be the final stages of building and moving to our new church for the community of Whetstone, we are praying each day for the building project.

'Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes. pray at all times. Share with God's people who need help' Romans 12:12-13

Some of us are exploring the discipline of regular fasting. This can be helpful to our prayer life. We recommend you read our guide to fasting if you have not done this before.
