‘I Love Jesus’

I’m here today to say in front of my family and friends that I love Jesus.  To show my faith and my trust in Him.

I’ve been brought up in a Christian household, and I’ve always been part of this Church family here at Whetstone.  I’ve been taught who Jesus is, how He impacts Christian’s lives and why we worship Him.  But for me, just being brought up like that didn’t make me a Christian and didn’t mean that I really understood the Christian faith.  In my early childhood, I effectively dismissed the idea of God and never really thought about Him.  In fact, throughout my whole primary school experience, people filled my mind with doubts about God and our purpose on the earth.  It conflicted with what I was taught at Church so I became very confused and put Him to the back of my mind.

As I grew to understand the world a lot more, the subject of God came to me again and this time I didn’t just forget or set it aside for another day, I thought about it and I decided that I was going to believe in God.  The first time I really met Him was at Soul Survivor in 2014.  There I experienced God’s power at first hand.  It was on the first night of that week that I, along with others, gave my life to Jesus in front of 10,000 people.

The story of the death and resurrection of Jesus didn’t matter to me until that point; I just viewed it as a date in the Christian calendar.  With time, I’ve grown to understand it and how it is the most important thing that happened to this world.  It matters to me because it shows God’s true love.  Love is the centre of the Christian faith, so without knowing that Jesus loves you, it’s hard to believe.  The death of Jesus proves this to me because to die for someone, you must really love them to sacrifice yourself for their wellbeing.  So to do this for the whole world proves to me that Jesus loves us unconditionally.  Jesus rising from the dead shows me his great power and that I can trust that He will always be there.

Trusting in Jesus and praying every day has really changed my life. I am generally a very stressy person, so I get worried and agitated over the smallest of things.  Praying to God and believing in him provides me with a large amount of comfort.  It makes me feel positive instead of the pessimistic person I am.  The way I view nature is also something that has changed, whenever I look at beautiful pieces of landscape I think of God and how He lovingly created it all.

I believe that Jesus is the truth and the way.  Therefore I come before you all today to be baptised, declare my love for our Lord and Saviour and commit the rest of my life to Him.
